People have great ideas every day. In most cases, before the day is over, they’ve listed all the reasons why not to do it, and never even try.
I am not one of those people. I had a great idea, I went for it, and I never quit, even when it seemed impossible. Against all odds, I completed the project that I started 12 years ago.
Although I have worked full time for almost 20 years in my solo massage therapy practice, my most important work is constantly educating my clients regarding the healing power of a strong neuro-muscular system. My undergraduate double major in exercise science continues to inform my massage work.
While at the University of New Mexico, when I wasn’t studying exercise, I was always participating: cycling, weightlifting, running, soccer, tennis, racquetball, hiking, and the endless variety of required activity classes for such a specialized degree.
Decades later, exercise continues to be an integral part of my life: hiking, backpacking, kayaking, walking, and weightlifting, Oh, and stretching. Don’t forget to stretch.
In 2013 I completed a Master of Transpersonal Psychology specializing in Ecospirituality. I was interested in exploring the deep connection we humans have with our natural habitat. It felt right for me to formalize this journey with the very experiential curriculum at the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology (Sofia).
I have completed advanced wilderness survival training, a16-day guided vision quest in the Anza Borrego desert in California, and a solo backpacking trip in the Cohutta wilderness in north Georgia. (Yes, it was very scary for me alone in the backcountry at night.)
I have made Georgia my home for 15 years. Growing up in New Mexico, and living 10 years in Arizona, I originally found the Georgia pine disturbingly claustrophobic, and quickly made my way to the literally breathtaking beauty of the Georgia coast, where I could see the edge of the planet once again. Over time, I have come to appreciate the dense forests of Georgia and the many lakes, rivers, and streams. It is quite a playground! Next adventure: kayaking the Okefenokee Swamp!
